How and when the notebook came to the archives is unclear. George Hunt was a Fellow of Magdalen College from 1681-99. He matriculated from Magdalen Hall in 1675 aged 16. He obtained a BA in 1678, an MA in 1681 and a B. and D.C.L. 1691. He was a Demy 1675-81 and a student of the Middle Temple 1677. He was the Junior Dean of Arts 1691 and Bursar 1692, 1698. Hunt was expelled by the Commissioners of James II in 1687 and restored in 1688. The events of 1687-1688 are discussed in J.R. Bloxam’s Magdalen College and King James II 1686-1688: A Series of Documents (Oxford, 1886) and Laurence Brockliss et al Magdalen College and the Crown: Essays for the Tercentenary of the Restoration of the College 1688 (Oxford, 1988).
